To have a legal marriage in France, at least one member of the couple must reside in the country and have a lasting bond before the wedding and be registered at the local Mairie. However, many international couples opt to complete the legal formalities in their home country and host a symbolic ceremony in Chamonix.
Given the Flégère Refuge’s unique location and popularity, it is recommended to book the venue 12 to 18 months in advance. This is especially important if you plan to get married during peak seasons, such as winter in Chamonix.
The closest major airport to Chamonix is Geneva International Airport (GVA), located approximately 1 hour by car. Geneva is well-connected to international destinations, making it a convenient choice for guests flying in from abroad. Inside, the chalet-refuge-style restaurant has one dining area, seating up to 100 guests, offering a warm and authentic atmosphere for your ceremony and drinks.
A tent is not required at the Flégère Refuge, the outdoor terrace is highly suggested even for winter ceremonies. In case of inclement weather, the inside restaurant of the Refuge would be used as a plan B.
The Flégère Refuge provides in-house catering specializing in drinks and local appetizers made from fresh, local Alpine ingredients. There is no need to hire an external caterer.
