Amylee and Luke’s Enchanting Wedding Weekend in Cahors

Location: Château Mercues, Cahors

Couple: Amylee and Luke

Season: Spring

The Venue:

Amylee & Luke chose the iconic Château de Mercuès in Cahors for their wedding. Perched above the Lot Valley and surrounded by vineyards, this historic château offered a striking blend of grandeur and intimacy.

With its medieval architecture, refined interiors, and sweeping views over the countryside, the setting created a truly timeless atmosphere for their celebration. The château’s elegant terraces and gardens provided the perfect backdrop for each moment of the day, allowing their guests to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the region.

A place where heritage, landscape, and understated luxury come together, making their wedding both memorable and deeply personal.

The Setting:

Amylee & Luke, an Australian couple, chose to celebrate their wedding in France, drawn by their love for romance, history, meaningful experiences, and exceptional wine. While they initially envisioned a château wedding, they were not set on a specific destination. What mattered most was finding a place that felt authentic, intimate, and deeply special – a celebration that truly reflected their story.

Their journey together began unexpectedly in February 2021, on a military base where they crossed paths daily in the hallways. Brief smiles exchanged between shifts quickly became something more. During the height of the pandemic, when face masks hid expressions, Amylee decided that if her smile could not be seen, she would simply have to find Luke another way. A little strategy – something both knew well through military life – led to a first conversation, then a coffee, a chocolate, and an undeniable connection.

From that moment, their relationship unfolded naturally. Despite restrictions and uncertainty, they became inseparable, discovering a shared love for adventure, travel, and creating meaningful experiences together.

When they discovered Château de Mercuès, perched above the Lot Valley and surrounded by vineyards, the choice felt immediate. Passionate wine lovers, particularly fond of Bordeaux, they were captivated by the estate’s connection to winemaking, its peaceful atmosphere, and the timeless beauty of a place where heritage and romance quietly intertwine.

The Ceremony:

The ceremony took place in complete intimacy in the château’s garden. There were no guests, just Amylee & Luke, their warm and thoughtful celebrant, and an abundance of flowers.

It was a deeply emotional moment, filled with sincerity and quiet beauty. Standing together in this peaceful setting, both were visibly moved, exchanging vows with tears in their eyes. A ceremony that felt simple, yet profoundly meaningful.

For a couple who had already navigated life’s challenges side by side, this moment felt like a quiet reflection of everything they had built together: resilience, admiration, and an unwavering sense that, together, anything was possible.

The Decor:

At Château de Mercuès, very little is needed. The beauty of the setting speaks for itself.

The historic architecture, surrounding vineyards, and carefully restored interiors created a naturally elegant backdrop. Soft, abundant florals complemented the château without overpowering it, adding a subtle sense of romance while allowing the character of the estate to remain at the forefront.

With the entire day ahead of them, Amylee & Luke took the time to wander through the château together, capturing moments across its gardens, terraces, and historic spaces, creating memories in a place that felt entirely their own.

Cocktail Hour and Reception:

Following the ceremony, the couple enjoyed an intimate dinner in the château’s restaurant.

The experience was warm, refined, and deeply personal. The staff took exceptional care of them throughout the evening, ensuring every detail felt thoughtful and special. Other guests staying at the château warmly congratulated them, adding an unexpected yet heartfelt sense of celebration to the day.

It was a quiet and elegant ending to a wedding entirely centred on what mattered most: their connection.

A celebration of Love:

Amylee & Luke’s wedding was a beautiful reminder that a celebration does not need grandeur to be unforgettable.

Their love story; born from chance encounters on a military base, strengthened through shared adventures, challenges, travels, and dreams built side by side; naturally led them to a place that reflected who they are. Lovers of meaningful experiences, beautiful landscapes, and wine, Château de Mercuès felt less like a venue and more like an extension of their story.

Together, they have built far more than a relationship: a home, a partnership, and a shared way of moving through life with curiosity and resilience. In the words of someone close to them, they are simply unstoppable.

Surrounded by vineyards, history, and quiet elegance, they created a wedding that felt deeply personal – intimate, emotional, and entirely their own. A day defined by authenticity, simplicity, and love, and one they will carry with them forever.
