To have a legal marriage in France, at least one member of the couple must reside in the country and have a lasting bond before the wedding and be registered at the local Mairie. However, some local churches would accept to conduct a religious ceremony for international couples without having to register at the Mairie – feel free to ask us which ones! Usually, couples opt to complete the legal formalities in their home country and host a symbolic ceremony in France.
